Focus On: Xmas on Southbank

This ‘Focus On’ event is a chance to get to grips with night photography whilst photographing the very Christmassy Southbank. You will need to bring a tripod.

It is an ideal practice event if you have completed the Explore Exposure, Switch to Manual or Night Photography workshops and wish to experiment with what you have learnt with hands-on professional help.

We will photograph around the Royal Festival Hall before making our way down onto the Southbank and capturing the atmosphere of the Christmas Market and the dazzling carousel.

After an hour of photographing around the Royal Festival Hall we will move back inside to get warm and discuss our images.

During the session, we will recap on night photography techniques such as:

• Short shutter speeds: capturing motion blur of the carousel
• Long shutter speeds: experiment making people disappear
• Using M: adjusting our exposure for the right metering

For the second half, we will move to the London Eye and the ice-skating area to capture more movement, lights and atmosphere. You will need to bring a tripod.

Throughout the evening, the tutor will recap on settings, offer 1:1 time with exercises to try, and answer any questions you have.
